Amnesty International’s Write for Rights Campaign
What is Write for Rights?
Amnesty International’s “Write for Rights” campaign occurs annually on 10 December, Human Rights Day. The initiative aims to make a difference in the lives of people or communities facing or at risk of human rights violations.
How Did It Begin?
More than two decades ago, a small group of activists in Poland organized a 24-hour letter-writing marathon, sparking a movement. Today, Write for Rights is the world’s largest human rights event.
Impact and Growth
- In 2001, 2,326 letters were written. By 2023, over 6 million letters, tweets, signatures, and actions were taken.
- Through human rights education activities, over 1.4 million individuals engaged. More than 100 lives have been transformed, freeing individuals from torture, harassment, or unjust imprisonment.

- Participatory learning methods to foster discussion, analysis, and exploration of human rights issues
