Urgent Alert: Millions in Sudan face famine amid conflict and access barriers

Millions at Risk of Famine in Sudan

Time is running out for millions of people in Sudan who are facing famine, displacement, and violence amid ongoing conflict. With 18 million people acutely hungry, including 3.6 million children malnourished, the situation is dire.

Humanitarian Crisis

  • 10 million internally displaced people
  • 2 million refugees in neighboring countries
  • Horrific attacks on civilians, hospitals, and schools

Obstructions to Aid

  • Deliberate denials of access to aid workers
  • Closure of key border crossings
  • Systematic hindrances to humanitarian assistance

Urgent Action Needed

The Inter-Agency Standing Committee Principals urgently call for immediate measures to protect civilians, facilitate humanitarian access, and de-escalate the situation to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe.

Appeal to Donors

  • Only 16% of the $2.7 billion needed has been received
  • Urgent disbursement of pledges required
  • More funding needed to avert famine

Signatories

A joint statement by prominent humanitarian leaders, including Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths and Director-General of the World Health Organization, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

The clock is ticking. The choice is clear.
